Every second Wednesday evening of the month, we watch a movie together! This Wednesday (09/07), we’re showing “What remains? The year abroad in my life.” A very special film that was recently on tour in German cinemas. After watching the film together, we invite you to join a conversation with Leipzig-based filmmaker Christian Weinert. The central question of the film is: How does a voluntary service abroad impact life afterwards? To explore this, seven former weltwärts volunteers are confronted—years after their stays—with images and statements from that intense time. For three participants from Tanzania and Cameroon, traveling to Germany was their first time in Europe. Meanwhile, four German volunteers supported a social project outside of Europe. This thoughtful and perspective-rich film offers a personal look at the impact of exchange programs between the Global North and Global South.
