movie night
community hangouts: movie night
October 2025 - online via Zoom Johann
Every second Wednesday evening of the month, we come together to watch a film.
This time, we are showing the short film Black Savior and look forward to discussing it with director and former weltwärts volunteer Johannes Krug. Together, we will watch the film, reflect on its themes, and talk with Johannes about his experiences and how his weltwärts year influenced the film. Bring your questions and curiosity! The film is in English, and the discussion will be held in both German and English.
About the short film:
Black Savior is a satirical short film that flips global power dynamics and humorously critiques the quirks of the “White Savior Syndrome.” In the story, an Akan family tries to save a Swabian village “one goat at a time.” The film was Johannes Krug’s diploma project at the Filmacademy Baden-Württemberg and was co-created with Kwaku Ankomah, who co-wrote, produced, and stars in the film. It serves as a proof-of-concept for a planned series.
Our new digital hangout format – organized by the community for the community – now takes place monthly! If you want to help shape a hangout, join our WhatsApp group or the WWN Space.
