Understanding before planning - A guide to collaborative partnerships

January 2026 - Online on Zoom Ruth Berhe

Where do projects miss the realities of people’s everyday lives? And how can international cooperation or volunteering become truly collaborative, context-sensitive, and sustainable? In this workshop, we will draw on your experiences to create a set of guiding questions that help adapt engagement and project work to local cultures, contexts, and needs. Our workshop facilitator Ruth Berhe grew up in Ethiopia and now lives with her family in an ecovillage in Portugal. As a Third Culture Child, she moves between cultures and connects themes of global justice, North–South dialogue, identity, and sustainability in her work as an educator, permaculture designer, and doula. Whether you want to reflect on your volunteering experience or work in international projects – your perspective is welcome, from both South–North and North–South contexts. Our workshop facilitator speaks English and German. The workshop will be held in English. If you understand English but prefer to express yourself in German, you are very welcome. 👉 No registration needed, just join in via Zoom!
