Fight discrimination and show moral courage

December 2025 - online on Zoom Jessica Meier

How can you recognize discrimination in everyday life—even when it is subtle? And how can you respond when you or others are affected? How can you use moral courage to help those affected feel safe and supported? This practical workshop focuses on precisely these issues: Together, we will examine various forms of discrimination and clearly distinguish them from bullying. Using examples, we learn to recognize levels of structural vs. individual and direct vs. indirect forms of discrimination. Our workshop speaker Jessica Meier—ethnologist, geographer, education consultant, and team builder—has over ten years of experience in the fields of anti-discrimination, migration, empowerment, and intercultural education. Raised in Kiel and shaped by her long-standing connection to Botswana, she combines diverse perspectives and practical methods. A significant part of the workshop is devoted to concrete options for action: in role-plays and exercises, we try out different ways of responding in order to remain capable of acting in discriminatory situations—both for ourselves and in solidarity with others. The workshop creates a safe space for exchange, self-reflection, and trying out new behaviors—with the aim of being able to live civil courage more consciously in everyday life and knowing different options for action when affected personally. This workshop will be held in German, primarily to practice rhetorical and situational arguments (e.g., in cases of discrimination at work) and to confront German aggressors in a determined manner. If there is demand from the community, we can also offer this workshop again in English. We look forward to exchanging ideas with you! Please register in advance.
