Transformative Learning (TL) is an approach in adult education. According to Jack Mezirow, it is a process in which previously held assumptions (perspectives, ways of thinking, habits of mind) are critically (self-)reflected and transformed in order to change and expand them. At the core of transformative learning theory is therefore a shift in perspective. This can be triggered by many different experiences — including a volunteer service.
